Gum disease is something that you will have forever if you do not get it treated by a dental professional.
You can do things at home to help reduce the chances of it advancing or becoming more uncomfortable, but without coming in to see us for regular treatments, you're not going to be able to remove the buildup that is causing the gum disease.
Gum Disease and Your Health
You can have gum disease for months before you notice that it is breaking down the teeth and gums. You might notice after some time that your teeth feel loose.
However, the beginning stages are when someone notices that they have irritated and red gums that are causing them problems. This is from lack of brushing and flossing that leads to having this problem. Once it is noticed, we should be contacted immediately regarding the issue.
Having an uncomfortable mouth is enough to prompt anyone to seek help. Gum disease is a serious issue and it shouldn't be left alone. It needs to be addressed to ensure that your overall health does not get negatively affected. For example, the plaque buildup can go to your heart and other systems, causing far more problems than you bargained for.
Simply brushing twice and day and flossing once is oftentimes enough to help prevent gum disease. However, this doesn't mean you can skip out on your regular 6-month checkups. These checkups help us evaluate your current oral health condition and catch any problems early on.
If you are concerned about gum disease, do not hesitate to call our office today. We will be happy to sit down with you, examine your oral situation, and come up with a treatment plan that will help address your gum disease problem, if you have one.
